Her parents were granted asylum as political refugees, so I suspect she comes from a family with a history of political activism.

I have no issue with people speaking out, but I do have an issue with people rallying support for issues by grossly distorting the truth or reality. Somehow I doubt she will be a real asset to the Greens, nor our politics in general. My guess is she will be our next Laila Harre.

Positive change comes from identifying real problems and applying solutions that the majority of us accept are necessary, not by sensationalising a small issue by presenting a grossly distorted picture, and implying the issue warrants more attention than it deserves.

Apparently, because somebody found mould in a wall at Middlemore, our health system has been recklessly neglected for 9 years.............Hopefully our public are not that gullible, although I suspect that some will subscribe to the illusion because it is what they want to believe...............

Sooner or later she will truly overstep the mark, and when taken to task, she will spectacularly fall from grace and exit parliament.

Meanwhile, she will remain popular because she is an attractive female who supposedly escaped persecution by an evil regime, rather than an overweight white 'privileged' male.

You see this with minor parties, ACT has done it as have the Maori Party.....
They forget that before they were elected they used to spout all types of shit to get coverage / traction but were never called on it.

Now elected they will be called on it.

Still the MASTER is Donald Trump.
He Bull Shitted all the time while he was a "private citizen" but now he just can not stop even as the US President.
Gets called on his BS but just continues on as nothing has happened, or just says "fake news".

This is, IMHO, the most disgraceful thing Labour have done while in power, and they should be called on it. Using vulnerable kids as political pawns is just unacceptable.

yip .. on the face of it some of those charter schools might seem a bit whacky but they do serve a purpose for kids that don't fit into the 'system'

Better for them to be in a school than on the streets .. still cheaper than prison.

Very interesting to watch TV3's The Nation this morning. Chris Hipkins has now declined twice to be interviewed on Labour's Charter School policy. The only 'pro reform' speaker they could find was unable to highlight any valid reason for his anti charter school stance, other than the fact that that there was scope for Charter Schools to use 'unqualified' teachers. He was clearly uncomfortable with how well these schools seem to be addressing issues that conventional schools struggle with, and the fact that people can make performance comparisons that highlight state school failings. They also dispelled the myth about funding that is currently being propagated by the anti charter brigade. It is abundantly clear that the Teachers Union are pulling the strings here, and the proposed changes are not the result of any performance issues within the charter schools, it's just the teachers union trying to regain strength lost under a National Govt.

Interestingly, Maori see scope for an appeal under the Treaty provisions, because the decision is not based on any performance measure, and personally I hope they do it. It is very clear that Maori are in favour of these schools, because they are working. This is ACT policy that actually addressed the problem, not the symptom, and Labour want to overturn it to protect the Teachers Union. That is nothing short of a travesty, and Hipkins knows it. This proposed policy gives back the gangs exactly what they want, a ready supply of disillusioned youth with no sense of purpose.

Just to top it off, Twyford told us the new focus would be 'Quality Relocatable Housing', 3 words that just don't historically go hand in hand. Look forward to these 'quality' relocatable homes being squeezed into Auckland at maximum density, to create tomorrows slums.

Labours contribution this term: Disillusioned youth, and slums for them to live in. What an excellent contribution. Any hope I held for a functional and effective government based around the current Labour party has well passed, and it appears from recent polling that I am not alone in that sentiment.

Yes , at a time when you would expect a fair amount of people would be keen to give the current conflaberation a go , but the TVOne/Reed Research poll the other day showed that if an election was held now , more people would vote for National than would for Labour , admittedly only 48% to 47% , but it seems already there is a fair amount of disillusionment .

I also see several other 'warning' signs -- the number of low cost houses to be built has been scaled back by 80% , with vague promises that they should still get there in 10 years -- yeah right .

And Winston , who of course wanted Northland Port replacing Ports of Auckland , with several thousand more truck movements a day , has said nothing about the fact that the Roads Of National Significance 4 laning through to Whangarei has been dropped , because its unaffordable , in spite of these new taxes .

And Andrew Little and 2 'family' did enter Pike River -- 4 metres in . Hell , thats almost the full length of the 2400 metre mine . With 2 solid concrete plugs in place . A token move to look like you've done something ?
