Thread: Election 2017

My apologies, the sell off was during my time overseas. I believed it was actually Roger Douglas who initiated it, but it was in fact Bolger continuing on from where Douglas left off:

New Zealand National Party - Wikipedia

In the 1990 election National defeated Labour in an electoral landslide and formed a new government under Jim Bolger. However, the party lost some support from Muldoon era policy based conservatives when it continued the economic reforms which had ultimately led to the defeat of the previous Labour government—these policies, started by Labour Party Finance Minister Roger Douglas and popularly known as Rogernomics, centred on the privatization of state assets and on the removal of tariffs and subsidies.

Regardless, the rest of the post remains valid, with respect to the sale of dated assets. The current Govt are actively trying to sell selected stock to the occupants, perhaps a more palatable way of reaching the same objective:

Tenant home ownership | Housing New Zealand

I guess the question is, should the Govt focus on being a landlord, or should it focus on governing, and just provide a level of state housing that falls outside what the private sector can provide?

I put it to you that small scale Mum and Dad investors provide a pretty good option as far as landlording goes, but in an ideal world the options of negative gearing should be removed to curb speculators, something I have mentioned here in the past.

WHY has this not worked, because the news has reported MPI have discovered a lot of cattle sales between farmers have not been recorded.

A glossy web page with fuck all else by the look of it.
If you drilled down, audited this you would find not much substance to it.
    It's what Jacinda is saying.
Sums National up "Glossy Page with fuck all in it"
Why didn't it work? It was still in its infancy, having just had its first review. A nationwide electronic tagging and tracking system for the agricultural sector was always going to have challenges.

No, a full tracking system, that you were completely unaware of until yesterday. A similar system exists currently for Beekeepers tracking American Foul Brood in bee colonies, and the focus is still on eradication rather than management as a result. Obviously the approach is a little different, as taging every bee with an RFID tag is a little impractical.

If the NAIT initiative was announced by Ardern tomorrow, you would be crowing about how proactive it was, and how smart Labour were for introducing it, but because it was a National initiative, you cannot bring yourself to make any positive comment whatsoever.

    1) I have read 70% of famers have not been using it when they sell between themselves. So the system is not working.

    2) I have also just read that this disease could have been around for 2 or 3 years???

    3) Why has not Fonterra been more active on this NAIT? This is after all their business. Again another asleep at the wheel.

    4) No getting rid of permits for oil exploration when we could be going $100+ a barrel in the next year/s is just DUMB. Yes brought in by Labour for a Green bribe. No fucking clue.
But don't worry battery cars are going to save us?????????

Correct. The media even tried to suggest this was for tax reasons! Reality is they are probably just 'stock for feed' deals between neighbors. One issue is that the 'human readable' on a NAIT tag is far from easy to read, so where there was an adjoining boundry, they probably figure it wasn't that important. Full buy-in by farners will take a while, but certainly M. bovis will speed the process!

Ironically, driving home just now I was wondering what the period is between infection and symptoms. If it is 2 years, then NAIT was never going to stop it anyway.

Fonterra........The closest example you will see of a private enterprise that runs like a Govt department.

Seems over half the greens want cigarettes banned but most of them want cannabis legalized.
    What gives?

Oh sweetie could be 6 more years or maybe even more....?
Losing those Ministerial Cars, walking a bit further to the Opposition benches and less free lunches and dinners has certainly helped in the weight loss.

Trevor your doing a good job.
