I haven't really watched it , but it's generally 'on' at the parlours , as the girls watch Shortbread Street at 7 , thyen flick over to this .

TV is on air 24 hours a day , and has ads on it . Companies pay for the ads , and they pay more , the more popular the time and the programme is . So the TV companies make the shows relatively cheaply , and obviously the more popular they are , the more money they make .

So its not really car crash TV , but of course it is edited to show personalities . I don't know any of the girls names or personaes , and have no idea how the contestants are chosen , but logic does say that firstly , there will only be a smallish NZ pool to select from , and secondly they will select some who they feel will click with the guy , whilst others will probably not , but it makes for more interesting TV . I doubt if the personalities and profilkes are purposely picked to be a studious Asian or a classy Maori or a ditzy Blonde or a tattooed bad girl or a shy Virgin , but more a case that they ( if they apply to be on the programme ) will end adding interest , rather than 12 or 15 or whatever size 10 , 5ft 7 brunette European girls who all work in clothing stores or similar .

As far as the guy goes , while he's onto a winner on the one hand , he also can't win in some peoples eyes . Look at your post Amber -- he presumably eliminate the girls he didn't feel he clicked with , but you criticise him for that , and also for basically being polite . Whereas if he had been harsher , and said I don't like your culture or the fact you won't put out or your eyes are too close together or you remind me of a loopy ex -- he'd be called a douche .

From the bits I did see , I'm guessing he had had some basic media training , so he got some of his personality across , created a bit of tension and interest without upsetting too many people ( both on the show and off it -- the viewers ) , and at the end of the day , he and the girls attracted viewers ( I'm guessing mainly female ) and I'm guessing attracted advertisers ( again , probably ones where the main purchaser is female ? ) to pay the bills .

Those home renovation programmes are also similarly structured -- companies pay to get associated with the programmes and their naming rights ; others give free or discounted products to get on-air mentions ; then the contestants need some firey ones , and Ken & Barbie couple , maybe same sex or best friends , one couple 20 years older than all the rest -- people watch , associate and buy products .

I actually know one of the girls from Season one of the NZ show. She is a genuine and down to earth lovely woman who never had a bad word for the other girls on the show.
    As for the lads....Season 2 what a knob-end, season 3 seems alright
